Challenge: Since the house got built over a conventional foundation, the perimeter and the concrete slabs from the inside are not fully connected. Therefore a separate method needs to get implemented to lift the concrete slabs once the perimeter gets lifted. Another challenge was to determine the most affected area by the foundation settlement.

Solution: The solution was to install helical piles to stabilize the foundation and support the house. Helical piles are steel shafts screwed into the ground to act as anchors. They are used to prevent further settlement and structural damage. The helical piles were installed along the perimeter of the house and beneath the slab in order to provide the necessary stability. Once the perimeter got lifted, our concrete crew lifted the concrete slabs from the inside by injecting an expansive foam material under the slabs.

Conclusion: After installation, the house was back on the level, and the homeowner had a permanent solution to their foundation settlement problem. Challenge: The major challenge in this stem wall repair was to determine what stem wall components were still useful and which ones were not. This was especially difficult because the stem wall had been damaged by water intrusion. To determine what components were still usable, we first had to do a thorough inspection of the existing stem wall. After analyzing the stem wall, we were able to determine which components could be salvaged and which ones needed to be replaced. Once we had identified the components that were still usable, we could begin the repair process.

Solution: We removed the existing damaged components and replaced them with new ones that were designed to the appropriate standards of strength and durability. We also reinforced the existing components with additional anti-rust materials. Finally, we backfilled the area with fresh cement to keep everything in place.

The Spring Training home of The Chicago Cubs!

8 Piles were installed at the site of the future Jim Beam Bar; set to open in 2018.  Each of the Piles are capable of supporting 33k pounds and precise placement is required for even weight distribution.  Once installed, measurements were taken to ensure the correct placement before moving to the next Pile.  The entire process was overseen by Licensed Engineer, John Ciminski.
