Did you know most of the air you breathe comes from your crawl space? Sometimes when your crawl space does not get encapsulated or regulated, humidity can even create mold or cause the crawl space to rot. Vented crawl spaces let hot air in the summer, which can hold more humidity than cold air, and the same when it is winter season. A non-capsulated crawl space can even make you pay more in your electricity bill in the summer and in the winter because the heat from the crawl space goes up and inside your house in the summer forcing the A/C to work more. This problem not only happens in the summer but also in the winter when vented crawl spaces let cold air in. Having an encapsulated crawl space does not only saves you money in the long run but also improves the air you breathe, prevents the creation of mold, and makes less liveable the habitat for pests.

Arizona Foundation Solutions was part of the team that renovated the NAU Skydome

We installed 36 Titan hollow bar Micro-Piles during the renovation of the NAU Sky Dome in Flagstaff, AZ.

Working inside the dome created challenges because of the tight spaces!  Many of the micropiles were installed under the remaining bleacher creating a challenge with the very low overhead. Because this renovation was inside the domed stadium, we were not able to get the equipment inside the stadium to install the caisson that was needed to carry the load of the columns for the new sky boxes.

It was determined that the best solution would be to install the hollow bar micro-piles. They could provide the required point loads but could be installed with much smaller equipment.  Each Micro-Pile had to be imbedded 10 feet into the rocky sub straight. This method uses a hollow drill bar and drill bit with a jet opening allowing for pressurized grout penetration while drilling. The bars are continuously threaded and become the reinforcement tendon, combined with a Portland cement grout body. The rough profiled surface of the grout body transfers tension and or compression loads into the ground. When the pile was installed to the correct depth a plate was attached to the top of the pile. The rebar can now be tied to the plated and the pier caps poured.

Situation:

The renovation project included construction of new sky boxes. A foundation system was needed to carry the column loads for the sky boxes.

Challenges:

Caissons were designed to carry the column loads but because of the limited space inside the dome the equipment required was not able to access the area.

Solution:

It was determined that the best solution would be to install the hollow bar micro-piles. They could provide the required point loads but could be   installed with smaller equipment. Each micro-pile had to be imbedded 10 feet into the rocky sub straight.

Conclusion:

Arizona Foundation Solutions crew installed 36 Titan hollow bar Micro-Piles to the required depth and steel plates were attached to the top of each pile to provide an attachment for the rebar cage. This process proved to be a time saver keeping the project on schedule!

Inherited my Mother's home. It has some shifting on the interior between floor and baseboard in her bedroom. There are some cracks forming in the walls in the Kitchen and Living room. There is also a history of moisture from the crawlspace causing mold in the attic, my mother had a dehumidifier installed and the attic treated, we found that more mold was forming in the attic and would like to see if it's still being caused by the crawlspace.

We have a two story home built in 1991 in Flagstaff, AZ. We moved into the home in April 2020. Over the past year a crack on the second story at the top of our stairwell has grown to about a quarter inch wide (larger than a hairline). Also on the second floor, we've noticed a crack forming at the top right of a doorway and the door is no longer closing correctly (requires a slight lift to click it closed). Around the same place, a floor joint has come up slightly causing a small but noticeable hump in the second story floor. There is evidence of horizontal cracking on the first floor (about the same place below the stairwell) that was patched up by previous owners. We'd like to get in front of this and see if/how we need to sure up the Foundation with a structural engineer.

We just bought the home and we planned to have new carpets installed. When the installers ripped up the old carpet they found a large crack and some sinking next to a wall. That said they didn't want to install the new carpet until this was fixed because the carpet wouldn't look right. We need the crack fixed and then small sinking brought up so the concrete is even and smooth enough for the new carpet.
